Netc N·VISION WatchDog Benefits for Tape Asset Tracking and Compliance
Netc N·VISION RFID Media Barcode Label
The Netc N·VISION RFID media barcode label is specifically designed for tape media using the same quality label material used in regular Netc media barcode labels. With more than one hundred million Netc media barcode labels deployed worldwide, Netc labels are field tested and proven to perform in every type of robotic tape library. Netc designed the RFID antenna to fit neatly in the human readable portion of the label so the printed barcode would not be compromised. We selected a UHF Gen2 RFID chip that contains the Electronic Product Code (EPC) where the VolSer resides. The EPC is written-once-read-many times (WORM) and is permanently locked for additional security. The internal RFID label schema, developed jointly by Netc and IBM, and published by IBM, ensures that each label may be uniquely and distinctly identified. As an option, we have also provided an additional 56 characters of custom user data that may be used to further identify your tape media. These are some of the reasons IBM selected Netc N·VISION RFID media barcode labels for their LTO and 3592 tape media.
Benefits of Using RFID for Regulatory Compliance
The success of RFID in tracking the physical location and movement of assets and inventory greatly increases the value of RFID technology to any company concerned with regulatory compliance issues.
The Netc N·VISION RFID WatchDog™ Tape Tracking System with PassPort Technology™ can help track the entire life cycle of your data tape assets: their deployment, auditing, movement and decommissioning. It also can monitor a "chain of custody" through the tape library and offsite vaulting process. Essentially, Netc N·VISION RFID can help companies establish an audit trail of ownership rights and physical location, which can help them better account for their data tape assets, thereby limiting data loss liability.
The benefits Netc N·VISION RFID WatchDog™ provides for regulatory compliance may be summed up as follows:
- Better inventory control
- Improved data tape asset accounting, tracking, control and auditing
- Security of sensitive, high-value, high-vulnerability assets
- Increased security for assets containing customer information
Advantages of Using RFID to Track Tape Assets
In addition to the benefits for regulatory compliance, an RFID solution that automatically tracks, controls and manages tape assets also provides these advantages:
- Faster, more accurate and timely tape library audits
- Faster tape library moves and consolidations
- Comprehensive asset histories and audit trails reduce errors in recording asset movements and statuses
- Reduced asset loss or theft due to management alerts when assets aren’t where they should be
- Automated processes that result in significant savings in time and labor costs
- Management dashboards and reports to help monitor key performance indicators and tape location
- Competitive advantage in marketplace
The Netc N·VISION RFID WatchDog™ Tape Tracking System with PassPort Technology™, an integrated, single-source, scalable RFID solution, will help you to achieve your data center tape management, auditing and regulatory compliance goals.
